Two children were injured in a farm attack in Eersteling just outside Polokwane on Thursday night.
Allegedly, farm workers from the farm were sitting outside a fire around 10pm when four suspects attacked them.
“The attackers, all armed, demanded cash and cell phones,” says Brig. Motlafela Mojapelo, provincial police spokesperson.
According to him, the attackers went to the workers’ rooms after the workers were robbed of their personal belongings.
This is where the two children were during the incident.
“The children refused to open the door. One of the attackers broke a window from one of the rooms and started shooting at the children. The children were brought to the hospital in a stable condition, ”says Mojapelo.
He says the children are eight and 12 years old, respectively.
Ian Cameron, head of community safety at AfriForum, says the children sustained serious wounds.
“One of the children was shot through the elbow and joint. The other child was shot in the thigh, ”he says.
Police are investigating a case of robbery and attempted murder.
In another incident, also outside Polokwane, a 68-year-old man and his wife were attacked and robbed on Friday of their smallholding.
Four attackers were also involved in the incident.
“One of the attackers had a firearm and another had a knife. The woman was tied up before the attackers left, ”says Mojapelo.
A cellphone, a TV, a Defy stove and a gas bottle were stolen during the robbery.
Mojapelo said police are investigating a house robbery case.
“No one has been arrested in relation to the two incidents,” he says.
