Law enforcement officials and police got their hands full in Cape Town on Friday morning after residents of Samora Machel in Philippi looted a truck carrying food products.
Cape Town subway spokesman Wayne Dyason says the incident happened on Jakes Gerwel Drive between 6.30am and 7am.
It has been reported that the truck driver’s leg was hurt.
Two other workers who were with him were unharmed. The driver allegedly told law enforcement officials that it was mostly women who allegedly got on the truck and looted it.
Dyason says the road was closed after the incident and there is a large police presence on the scene.
Meanwhile, the R300 highway at Jakes Gerwel Drive was closed to traffic around 9am, after there were incidents where people stole trucks with stones and attempted to rob them, said Cape Town Traffic Services spokeswoman Maxine Bezuidenhout subway, said.
