Three men who allegedly hijacked a truck delivering meat in Guguletu were arrested shortly after the incident.
Sergeant. Western Cape police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana says the truck was at a traffic light in Govan Mbeki Street when three gunmen approached it and threatened the driver.
“They demanded the keys of the truck and ordered the driver and two passengers to sit in the back of the truck.”
They were taken by truck to the Ramaphosa informal settlement in Guguletu where the driver and his passengers were unloaded.
The suspected hijackers drove further and according to Rwexana, the truck was stopped by the police as it drove out of the settlement.
One of the suspected hijackers, a 29-year-old man, was arrested. The other two men were later arrested after a search.
The three men will soon appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
Rwexana says the 29-year-old man will appear on the charge of possession of a hijacked vehicle and the other two men, who are 23 and 42 years old, on a charge of possession of stolen property.
