A taxi driver and his assistant were shot dead on Monday morning in Lusaka, Nyanga, Cape Town, shortly after arriving in the area from the Eastern Cape.
Brig. Western Cape Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said information was that the taxi had been burned at about 5am and both occupants were fatally shot.
Brig. Potelwa says in another taxi incident, at the corner of Sheffield and New Isleben streets, also in Nyanga, taxi drivers were burnt into a Quantum taxi just after 5am.
“A 24-year-old taxi driver was shot dead, while two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a medical facility.”
The attacks have brought the death toll in the taxi violence on the Cape Flats to five since Friday.
Poltewa says three taxi drivers, aged 25, 27 and 33, were shot dead last Friday night in Philippi East. Two others, aged 28 and 38, were wounded during the shooting.
