Criminals are now taking advantage of the Covid-19 Coronavirus in South Africa to rob homeowners.
The Cape Town metro says it has received reports of criminals approaching residents at their homes and pretending to offer medical services and doing home tests for Covid-19.
The city has warned residents that no staff members have been instructed to do door-to-door testing.
Residents are advised to check the official identity card before allowing people on their property.
The identity card must have the City logo, the name and surname of the staff member or a client, and must contain the staff member or a client’s photo embedded on the card.
Another incident was also reported on Twitter by Yusuf Abramjee.
Netcare has been made aware that criminals are going to homes in various areas, claiming to be from Netcare or Netcare 911, and saying that they are assisting the Department of Health with door-to-door screening for Covid-19 the company said in a statement.
