A senior Cape Swartland police officer faces a charge of defamation.
Capt. Fanie Majiedt, 56, is scheduled to begin trial in Malmesbury Regional Court on August 14.
Col. Police spokesman Andrè Traut said Wednesday that the investigation against Majiedt is still ongoing.
Majiedt appeared in Malmesbury Regional Court last Friday after which the case was postponed to August 14 for trial.
Traut says the investigation against Majiedt comes after a firearm that was believed to be “abandoned” was returned to the owner without the firearm processes being completed.
He says that there was an internal disciplinary hearing, that that process was completed, but that it was an internal matter between the employer and employee and that the outcome of the disciplinary hearing would therefore not be disclosed.
“The officer was not suspended,” said Traut.
