A security guard who was shot and killed by robbers at the gate of a company in Flagstaff in the Eastern Cape on Thursday before warning another driver.
The robbers arrived in a white Colt double cab bakkie at the gate shortly after employees unlocked the building around 7:30 p.m.
They shot the 41-year-old security guard standing at the gate in front of the business.
According to police information, the wounded guard ran into the building to alert the driver, but the robbers were briefly on his heels.
They stole an undisclosed amount of money.
The security guard then succumbed to his injuries, said Col. Provincial police spokesman Sibongile Soci said.
She said the robbers’ vehicle was found abandoned that day along the R61 near the Bhukuveni settlement in Flagstaff.
A business robbery and murder case is under investigation and police have searched at least four suspects.
