A young robber who thought he could try to rob a security guard in Hanover Park, Cape Town, with an unloaded pistol, was beaten.

Cape Town metro police responded to information about an incident in Indulant Street on Saturday afternoon. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a security officer dressed in his uniform who was assaulting the alleged robber.

The fight was stopped and the metro police officers seized the uncharged Walther PPK 7.65.

The 19-year-old suspect was taken by officers to Hanover Park Day Hospital, where he had to face ten stitches.

He was taken to the Philippi police station, where it was determined that the firearm was stolen in the area in April. The suspect already has another case of robbery pending against him.

He was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of stolen property and armed robbery.
