Police are on the trail of two men who shot and killed a young mother next to her four-month-old baby daughter.
The 19-year-old Jasmine Fillis was killed shortly before midnight on Sunday in Timothy Valley, in Port Elizabeth’s northern suburbs, when two unknown men struck at home in France Street.
Col. Police spokesman Priscilla Naidu says the two men kicked open the kitchen door of the home, after which one man threatened the victim’s parents with a firearm in their bedroom.
The other man went to find the victim in her room.
According to a statement, Fillis’s baby daughter was found in the room shortly after the shooting by Fillis’ parents under a chair, near the bed. She is unharmed.
Naidu said the attackers ran away after the incident and nothing was stolen during the shooting.
The motive is still under investigation.
