A man, 30, who allegedly shot and killed his mother, 59, when she wanted to intervene in an altercation, is expected to appear in court on Monday.
He will appear in Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court, outside Mbombela in Mpumalanga, on murder charges, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and law enforcement.
The grief game happened in Kabokweni on Wednesday, Brig said. Police spokesman Leonard Hlathi said in a statement on Saturday.
“According to the report, the man, his wife and another woman, apparently a girlfriend of the man, had a fiery argument.
“The argument between the three worsened and the man’s mother, who was with her other children in another room, heard the riot and wanted to intervene,” says Hlathi.
She was trying to defuse the situation when her son allegedly fired a shot and the bullet hit her.
She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at her arrival, Hlathi says.
In their investigation, police found the suspect was the victim’s son and he was located Thursday, with an illegal firearm and ammunition in his possession and was arrested.
