Kimberley police found the severely decomposed body of a 31-year-old woman in a shallow grave behind a sink home on Thursday morning.
According to Capt. Northern Cape police spokesman Olebogeng Tawana was reported missing on June 7, after which police immediately began a search.
Tawana says members of the Roodepan police station found her dead after receiving information from the community and intensifying their investigation.
The body was discovered behind a sinkhole in Block A, Ivory Park.
Shocked residents of Roodepan gathered at the scene when police removed the woman’s body from the shallow grave.
A 39-year-old man believed to be the woman’s friend was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the murder.
The woman’s identity can only be revealed after her family has been notified of her death.
Tawana says the man will soon appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge.
