The South African National Defense Force (SANDF) will work with police to investigate the death of a man in Alexandra in Johannesburg after he was allegedly assaulted by soldiers.
“The SANDF confirmed an incident in Alexandra on April 11, 2020 that resulted in a case being brought to the Alexandra police station against the SANDF,” the Defense Force said in a statement on Sunday.
“The SANDF will cooperate during the investigation. The SANDF emphasizes that its members are expected to act within the law during this difficult period while applying the Covid 19 seclusion rules to save lives. Any action outside the law will not be tolerated. ”
According to media reports, police are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted by soldiers in Alexandra.
According to the SABC, neighbors said a group of people were having a drink in their yard when a soldier wanted to know why they were drinking and why they were not in their home.
More soldiers apparently arrived and the man was severely assaulted. When his wife found him unconscious later that evening, an ambulance was called. Paramedics declared him dead and a murder case was pending.
