A 65-year-old man is behind bars after police raided his home on a small holding outside Pretoria on Saturday and seized several unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Col. Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said police searched the premises at Lusthof, near Hammanskraal, and found 11 firearms of different calibers. None of the weapons had licenses.
Police seized three guns, a shotgun, a semi-automatic weapon, two revolvers and four pistols.
“The revolvers were the only weapons stored safely in a small safe in one of the bedrooms under the Firearms Control Act. Some of the firearms were found under a mattress and others in the bedrooms, ”Muridili said.
She said the firearms would be sent for forensic tests to determine if it had been used in the commission of any offence.
The man is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
