A 33-year-old has been arrested in the Northern Cape yesterday (24th April 2020) for alleged Food Parcel fraud.
The Department of Social Development is distributing food parcels to feed citizens that are struggling to afford food during the lockdown period.
The estimated value of the food parcels is R900.
The suspect has been accused of requesting two different households to sign that they received the parcels and will deliver them at a later date, the victims claim that they never received the later delivery.
In a Police statement, it’s been said that the suspect distributed the food parcels to other families, at this stage, it’s not clear if they were sold at a cheaper rate to those receiving.
The suspect is due to appear at Jan Kempdorp Magistrates’ on Tuesday 28th April 2020.
“The Hawks appeal to the public to report to their nearest police stations any corruption that they witness or experience during this time.” said Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi
