A Postmasburg man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday after being found guilty of raping his own mother.
Col. Mashay Gamieldien, police spokesperson, says the incident happened on December 29, 2018 at around 15:40 when the woman took an afternoon nap after returning from a funeral.
She woke up when she felt someone on her.
She realized the man was her 36-year-old son. The woman started screaming. Her boyfriend heard the screams and stormed into the room and pulled the boy away from his mother.
The man was arrested the same day.
He was recently convicted of rape and sentenced Monday to 20 years in prison.
His name will now be entered on the register of sex offenders and he has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Brig. Nicky Mills, provincial commander of the domestic violence, child abuse and sexual offenses (GKS) unit in the Northern Cape, welcomed the sentence.
