A man who allegedly grows and sells so-called magic mushrooms is behind bars after police raided the premises in Amanzimtoti on Tuesday morning, where it is being cultivated and processed.
Capt. Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo said police were following a tip from the public and found an advanced laboratory where the mushrooms are grown.
“Different species in different forms and growth stages have also been discovered on site,” Mhlongo said.
The drugs have an estimated value of about R448 000.
“The team also seized cash that is believed to be the proceeds of crime,” Mhlongo said.
A man, 38, has been arrested for illegal possession and trafficking of drugs. He is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court later today.
