A 50-year-old man was arrested in the Strand over the weekend when members of the Cape Town metro police found marijuana, Mandra tablets and R1,2 million in cash.

According to JP Smith, mayoral committee member for security in the Cape metropolis, metro police officers hit a home after a tip about selling drugs on the premises.

“With the arrival of police, a man tried to hide marijuana and Mandrax tablets in a drawer in the kitchen. The site was searched, leading to the discovery of two black bags full of cash of R1,2 million. The man couldn’t explain why he had so much cash and was arrested, ”says Smith.

Metropolitan officials also responded to another tip from the public over the weekend and found a plastic container containing 75 bags of marijuana in an outside room of a house in Kalkfontein. The owner of the house, who was not at home, is being sought.

In a separate incident, a 42-year-old man was caught in his possession on 73 Marine cartons of Old Marine Drive with an estimated street value of about R175 200. The man was arrested for violation of the Disaster Management Act and will appear in court soon.
