Former Umkhonto we Sizwe commander on the Cape Flats appeared in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The 54-year-old man works for the Cape Town Metro Council as a senior manager.
Col. Police spokesman Andrè Traut said police could not reveal the man’s identity until he pleaded. He did, however, confirm that a 54-year-old man was arrested on Friday for alleged rape.
According to Traut, the complainant is 13 years old.
He said the allegations were being investigated and that no further information could be disclosed at this time.
The source said the child was after an older relative and informed the person. The family member then accompanied the child to the Strandfontein police station where it was reported.
The man was arrested and will appear in court on Monday.
