Five men have been arrested between the age of 23 and 42, they were found with quantities of copper wires. The wires have been alleged to have come from the Rail infrastructure.

NewsLiteSA in the past month have reported multiple railway infrastructure damages and thefts, this seems to be an ongoing issue or easy picking for criminals.

The items were allegedly stolen from Mitchell’s Plain rail way, when the officers arrived on the scene they saw two men with “large quantities” of copper wiring, they also noticed missing wires from the rail line.

Further investigations were carried out and the two men were questioned which led them to find three more suspects in Eastridge who were also in possession of copper cables.

The officers gathered the cables together and measured over 120 meters of copper cables adding up to R80,000 if sold at street value.

All five suspects are have appeared in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates Court today on Criminal Amendment ACT charges and alleged possession of the stolen property. The outcome of the court case is pending.
