A group of five attackers who attacked a man (78) and his daughter’s farm near Leeudoringstad in the North West on Thursday afternoon, were caught half an hour later on the N12 highway near Klerksdorp.
Capt. Police spokesman Sam Tselanyane said three of the suspects had already been arrested while still on the trail of their two accomplices.
He says a case of house robbery is being investigated.
Oskin Chatwind, spokesperson for CSS Security, says the attackers entered the farm between 13:15 and 13:30 in the afternoon and overwhelmed the couple.
“They assaulted the man and woman, but mercifully they were not critically injured,” Chatwind said. He says they have meanwhile been taken to hospital for further medical treatment.
Chatwind says the attackers stole two firearms and about R6 000 in cash. Tselanyane says cellphones were also looted.
Members of a security company in Klerksdorp, CSS Security, joined forces with the police, community members, neighborhood and farm guards to make sure the suspects were caught.
“The police were notified of the incident and immediately notified local security companies, neighborhood and farm guards to be on the lookout for the vehicle,” Chatwind said. Police blocked the town and surrounding roads.
According to Chatwind, a member of their security company spotted the vehicle on the N12 between Klerksdorp and Wolmaransstad around 14:00. “Together with the police’s flash patrol, we chased the vehicle. We can confirm that shots were fired between the suspects and the flash patrol. “
He says the vehicle turned off the N12 to Meiringspark in Klerksdorp and was intercepted in this neighborhood. A suspect has been arrested. The remaining suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the bushes. Two more of the suspects were arrested later that day. Three firearms were recovered.
Chatwind says there were about 40 vehicles at the scene at the time to help locate the suspects. He especially praised the police for their good work.
