Two men have been arrested in Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal, for possession of nearly 80 kg of marijuana.
According to a statement issued by provincial police, the two men, aged 32 and 34, presented themselves as employees of a funeral establishment. “Police officers noticed at a roadblock early in the morning that a car only turned off its lights just a few meters before the roadblock and pulled off the road. Officers approached the vehicle and found two men inside the vehicle.
“They informed the officers that they were working for a funeral business and were carrying a body,” the statement said.
However, police could smell something odd in the nose and searched the vehicle. “At least 30 packages of marijuana were found in the vehicle and also in a coffin. The marijuana weighs almost 80 kg in total. ”
The suspects were arrested and taken to the Pongola police station.
They will appear in Pongola Regional Court on Tuesday on drug possession charges.
