A man has been arrested after allegedly trying to kill his five-year-old son after an argument with the child’s mother.
The 31-year-old KwaZulu-Natal man appeared in court on Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He was arrested in Mphambanyoni on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala said police received the complaint about 20:30 on Tuesday.
The child was struck in his arm and taken to a hospital.
“Police found two homemade firearms, a revolver and a shotgun with five cartridges in the man’s possession.”
“This is a disturbing incident in Child Protection Week. I am glad the suspect was apprehended and illegal weapons confiscated, ” said Khombinkosi Jula, provincial police commissioner.
