Three men in Morningside were caught redhanded trying to steal a vehicle, they were seen casually trying to break in when Berea police officers were driving by.

The officers wasted no time and carefully approached the men while holding their firearm towards them, this escalated into a brief shootout which resulted in one suspect receiving a gunshot wound. While the one suspect was injured the Police moved in for an arrest and also arrested the second suspect.

The third suspect fled the scene and was never caught or charged.

Two of the suspects were apprehended with equipment used by criminals to break into vehicles, this provided to be vital evidence to put forward their charge. Two of the suspects have been charged with attempted murder and attempted theft of a motor vehicle. They are due to appear in the Durban Magistrates court next week.

Ltn General Khombinkosi Jula has commended the work of the police officers and being vigilant while on duty.
