Jan Smit, the Bloemfontein businessman who was wounded in a robbery in his shop in the city, is doing very well.
Smit, 65, owner of Triprod in Harvey Street who specializes in animal feed, is being treated for a gunshot wound at Life Rosepark Hospital after five armed men assaulted him in his business on Thursday night.
According to Ian Smit, his father is recovering well and is still in hospital.
Smit and a security guard, Isaac Mosamo, were attacked and tied up around 6:45 p.m. Smit was shot in the upper body and the robbers fled with an unknown amount of cash. Mosamo’s face was swollen, but he did not sustain any serious injuries.
After the men fled, Mosamo untied him and released Smit.
Ian, meanwhile, also rushed to the store because his father did not answer his calls and came across his wounded father. The emergency services were called, after which his father was stabilized and taken to hospital.
According to Brig. Provincial police spokesperson Montantsi Makhele said no one had been arrested in connection with the incident.
