Two females in KwaZulu-Natal were arrested on Wednesday after they kidnapped a newly born baby.
Col. Thembeka Mbele reported that two females ages 17 and 20 befriended the new mother at the hospital and asked the victim if they wanted to leave together as they were all heading in the same direction.
After leaving the hospital and arriving at CBD the suspects took the baby away from the mother when she visited the lavatory.
The woman panicked and immediately contacted the Umzimkhulu Police, from there the Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) sprung into action to track down the baby and suspects.
“An intensive investigation led the team of investigating officers to Mfulamahle Location where the two females and baby were found. Suspects were immediately arrested. The baby was taken to hospital for a medical check-up. Investigations revealed that the baby was destined to Gauteng province where the one of the suspect’s boyfriend resides.” said Col Thembeka Mbele
Both suspects appeared in court yesterday, no verdict has been made however the 17-year-old was released to the parent’s care.
