The ANC in Gauteng did not rule out the suspicion that the murder of Mapiti Matsena, a member of the Gauteng legislature, was politically motivated.
However, the party said it would wait for the outcome of the police investigation.
Bones Modise, the party’s regional spokesperson, says Matsena was brutally murdered in his own house.
He was stabbed to death on Wednesday night in his Doornpoort house in Pretoria.
He was the chairman of the community safety portfolio in the Gauteng legislature.
Modise says they note that police have taken someone in to question.
“We are shocked and have no words. What happened to him upset everyone. Matsena was at the forefront of fighting crime in the province. His violent assassination left the ANC and his family poorer. “
The fact that someone is being questioned does not excite anyone unless the person is charged with murder, he says.
The party called on the public to come forward and provide information to the police.
Modise promised that the person would be protected by the police.
