Five people were arrested shortly after a robbery Friday night at a business in Observatory, Cape Town.
According to a police statement, members of Maitland’s flash patrol followed up on information about a Volkswagen Jetta that was used in a robbery at a business in Observatory.
They pulled the car into the Athlone area of the road. The five suspects have been arrested and are in custody at the Woodstock police station.
The policemen confiscated an Ancus 9 mm pistol, the serial number of which had been filed off, a magazine and ammunition. One of the suspects also had a gas pistol. An unknown amount of money and ten cellphones were found in the car. Police also seized it.
According to police, the car is also believed to have been used in a robbery in Claremont on Thursday when a security guard was robbed of his firearm.
The suspects appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of a business robbery.
