Two police officers will appear in the Limpopo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after allegedly carrying liquor in a police van.
The 39-year-old sergeant and 32-year-old constable are attached to the Bulge River police station. They were arrested on Monday after allegedly buying beer from a liquor store and carrying the crates in the back of a police van. It is illegal to buy or sell liquor during the national state of restriction.
Matome Moremi-Tauetsoala, spokesperson for the Limpopo Department of Safety, says the 39-year-old owner of the liquor store has also been arrested.
The police seized the drink.
Traffic officials stopped a taxi loaded with liquor in the same area on Saturday. The driver was apparently planning to smuggle the liquor to Mpumalanga.
