Police in the Potchefstroom province were kept busy over the weekend period, they have reported having “nabbed” 315 suspects over three days. The crimes varied in severity scaling from murder all the way down to stolen sheep.
Of the 315, 25 were arrested for “contact crimes” which involved murder, rape, GBH, robbery, sexual assault and attempted rapes.
The largest count of arrests for the same crime was for drinking in public, the Police arrested 129 suspects over this crime-filled weekend.
The Police in the area issued 172 fines over this period for lower-level crimes and 80 road-related fines.
Seizures consisted of “1 rifle, 3 shotguns, firearm parts, two magazines, two dangerous weapons, 699.37 litres of liquor and two sheep” said Cpt Aafje Botma
The North West Provincial Commisioner, Ltnt General Sello Kwena has welcomed the arrests and indicated that police and others will continue to work together to ensure criminals are “brought to the book”.
