South Africa has at this stage a total of 661 936 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and a total of 725 new cases have been reported, the Minister of Health, dr. Zweli Mkhize, said Monday night.
A total of 591,208 people have already recovered from the virus and the recovery rate at this stage stands at 89.3%.
Another 39 deaths were confirmed. Of these, nine are in the Eastern Cape, one in KwaZulu-Natal, nine in Gauteng, 16 in the North West and four in the Western Cape.
A total of 6,180 Covid-19 tests were performed in the previous 24 hours.
The most active cases at this stage are in Gauteng (20 017) and the Free State (14 360).
Level 1 of the isolation measures came into effect on Monday and Mkhize warned South Africans not to slacken their vigilance. According to the minister, level 1 does not mean that the pandemic is now behind us.
