Another 32 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced on Saturday night.
That puts the death toll in South Africa at 643.
By Saturday, 30,967 people had tested positive for the virus. This represents an increase of 1,727 new cases in the last 24 hours.
The confirmed number of infections per province is as follows:
- Eastern Cape: 3 759
- Free State: 261
- Gauteng: 3 773
- KwaZulu-Natal: 2 476
- Limpopo: 173
- Mpumalanga: 113
- Northwest: 162
- Northern Cape: 57
- Western Cape: 20,160
- Unknown: 33
The Covid 19 death toll in South Africa stood at 643 on Saturday and most of those – 465 – died in the Western Cape.
The death rate for the rest of the provinces is as follows:
- Eastern Cape: 82
- Free State: 8
- Gauteng: 31
- KwaZulu-Natal: 52
- Limpopo: 3
- Mpumalanga: 0
- Northwest: 1
- Northern Cape: 1
