On the 5th March 2020, a life imprisonment sentence has been given to Laston Moodley (26) at the Durban High Court. The suspect was found guilty of murder and rape of a child.
The victim Amanda Mila (7) was out playing with other kids on the 28th of July 2018 when a neighbor asked her to go shop, on her way Moodley lured the child to his house. While at the house he raped her and later fatally stabbed her, the suspect “left Mila naked on the road with a stab wound on the left side of her chest.”
The suspect was confronted by the community when they tracked a trail of blood to his house, the police were later called and he was arrested. Upon investigation of the house, the Police found the girls clothes had were hidden inside the bin.
The suspect made attempts for bail back in 2018 however this was denied, He remained in custody for two years until recently when he was given his life imprisonment sentence.
“The investigating officer is commended for presenting a well prepared docket to court to make sure that the accused is sentenced appropriately,” said Ltnt General Khominkosi Jula
