Courts imprison three corrupt Eastern Cape Traffic Officers

Three Traffic Officers have been found guilty of corruption while carrying out their duties, They are now serving a combined 20 years prison time.

Those who have been found guilty are Mzuvukile Nelson Nkontso (53), Phathekile Dinginto (47) and Noluvuko Kondile Vuba (32).

The Serious Corruption Investigation team were first on the trail back in December 2016 when they received complaints that the officers were demanding and also accepting bribes.

Bribes can be used to soliticate money out of citizens that can be guilty or even sometimes not guilty of breaking the law.

The crimes occurred on the R72 which is located between East London and Port Alfred, the trio were allegedly demanding bribes from motorists, they went on to do the same on the N2 too.

The three traffic officials attended court last Thursday were found guilty of their crimes. Two of the suspects were found guilty of one count of corruption and received five years imprisonment each. The other suspect were found guilty of two counts of corruption, however, were also given 5 years imprisonment which will run alongside the other two, said Col Katlego Mogale.
