The new coronavirus claimed the life of a Western Cape teacher.
The Western Cape Teachers Forum confirmed this week that a teacher at Montevideo Primary School in Montana, Cape Town, died of Covid-19 complications.
The teacher in question taught the grade 7 learners to the school.
According to the forum, the teacher was quarantined earlier this week after testing positive for Covid-19. A statement released by the school on Friday confirmed that another teacher at the school had also tested positive for the new coronavirus, while a third teacher was awaiting test results. The school building is currently being disinfected and parents will be notified when the learners can return to school.
The origin of Covid-19 at the school in question is not clear at this stage, although the school indicated that grade 7 pupils have ignored safety measures at the school.
A total of 57,941 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the Western Cape so far, with 1,692 deaths.
