The MEC for Health in KZN confirmed on Friday that there are 18 people in self-quarantine. According to Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, this is because they were in close contact with South Africa’s patient zero.
The department is currently waiting for the tests on the patients to be completed.
MEC Simelane-Zulu said there is no lack of oversight at the centres. She said the portfolio committee had visited the sites to ensure that the department followed up on its mandate.
More than 300 people have been tested in South Africa so far. They were all negative.
This case in KwaZulu-Natal was the only one that tested positive, says Mkhize.
