The deadly disease Coronavirus, also known as 2019-nCoV has seen over 9,692 confirmed cases in China and 213 confirmed deaths.

Two South African’s have been confirmed to have been contaminated with the disease and are currently under strict quarantine in China.

The two that have been infected will remain in China, Government officials have also deployed the SANDF to the borders to ensure that strict protocol is adhered to.

Amidst the fears of contamination in South Africa, the Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed to this date there have been no recorded infections in the country.

The minister has assured the public that South Africa is ready and that they have the equipment available to tackle the disease.

“We welcome the declaration of an emergency of international concern. We reassure our people that there is no confirmed case of the virus in the country. However, there are two South Africans in China who are under quarantine.”

“South Africa has high referenced laboratories and technical skills to deal with coronavirus. We encourage all South Africans in China to register with embassies so that we know where to find them. At the moment, there is no evidence compelling us to repatriate our citizens from China.”
