Nearly 31,000 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus caused by Covid-19 have now been reported in South Africa. More than 20,000 of these cases were recorded in the Western Cape.
Dr. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in his latest statement on Saturday night that 30,967 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the country to date, of which 1,727 have been reported in the last 24 hours.
Another 32 Covid-19 related deaths were reported at that time. That brings the country’s death toll to 643.
However, according to Mkhize, 16 116 patients in South Africa have already recovered from the virus.
More than 20,000 Covid-19 tests have been performed in the last 24 hours. South Africa has so far conducted 701 883 tests, of which 347 508 (50%) in the private sector and 354 375 (50%) in the public sector.
