The new coronavirus has claimed another 40 lives in South Africa.
Dr. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced the country’s latest Covid 19 figures in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, 32 683 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported in South Africa to date, of which 1 716 have been reported over the past 24 hours. The country’s death toll now stands at 683.
A total of 16 809 patients have already recovered. That indicates a recovery rate of 51.4%, Mkhize said.
A total of 725 125 Covid-19 tests have been reported to date, of which 23 242 have been performed in the past day.
The Western Cape still had the most cases of Covid-19 (21,382) followed by Gauteng with 4,003 cases. In the Eastern Cape, 3 927 patients have already contracted the new coronavirus.
