Coronavirus: Confirmed cases rise to 2506 and 34 confirmed deaths in South Africa

The Health Minister addressed South Africans on Wednesday.

There are 2,506 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country the minister said..

Gauteng’s figures are still very high with 930 cases, Western Cape 657, KwaZulu-Natal 519, Eastern Cape 199, Free State 97, Limpopo 25, Northwest 23, Mpumalanga 22 and Northern Cape 16. Other figures still need to be awarded.

Minister Mkhize says, unfortunately, there are also deaths. In that case, we looked back at a number of deaths that we did not announce. Since April 9, there have been seven more deaths in the country.

All but one of the deaths were in KwaZulu-Natal the Minister said.

The new deaths due to COVID-19:

  • A 50-year-old man from Gauteng who suffered from chronic asthma.
  • A 71-year-old woman who died on April 10.
  • A 79-year-old man who died on April 10 in a private hospital. 
  • An 89-year-old woman.
  • A 91-year-old man.
  • A 73-year-old woman. 
  • A 79-year-old woman. 

The total number of tests conducted is 90 515.
