Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize updated South Africans on Friday morning.
Mkhize says a total of 202 people now have Covid-19 in SA. This means that there are now 52 more confirmed cases since yesterday.
South Africans need to get ready – the virus will be with us for a long time says Mkhize.
In the Free State, five people came from international destinations and attended a church gathering of between 200 and 300 people.
The minister called for help from The Red Cross for tracing people that were in contact with confirmed cases.
The Red Cross will add 285 people who will do contact tracing of the church members according to Mkhize.
Up to 600 people will be tested to check for coronavirus contacts.
Mkhize says 7 of the new cases were reported in the Free State.
Mkhize says they went to the Brandwag school where they tested people. A health worker who is a mother of two has tested positive for the virus. She did not travel abroad at all, but tested positive for the virus. They have already tested the patients who came into contact with her.
Mkhize says that more contact cases have been identified at Brandwag school, one in Grade 1 and one in Grade 2.
