President Ramaphosa addressed religious leaders’ plans to secure their places of worship against the further spread of the virus.

According to President Ramaphosa religous leaders advised South Africans to hold a nationwide prayer session at 6pm tonight; to pray for the country especially for those who are infected or who have relatives who are infected or who are in solitary confinement or in hospital, but also to pray for the nation that is now in total restraint.

We now have over 900 people infected as the minister told me the President said.

President Ramaphosa said that a number of countries around the world have a lot of sympathy with Africa. We are still in the early stages of the virus and need a lot of support. Especially because Africa’s health systems are poor.

Ramaphosa is currently at the Police Training College in Pretoria where he addresses members of the police service.

The President says that Police will be called at midnight to wage war against an invisible enemy – corona, but you’re going to save the lives of millions of South Africans.

Your job is to police the nation and save the nation. I expect you to do it with care, understanding and respect. This is not a “skiet-en-donner” moment. It is a moment when we have to save lives and advise people to abide by the regulations says Ramaphosa.
