The confirmed number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa stood at 97 302 by Sunday evening after 4 621 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said another 53 Covid-19 related deaths were confirmed. In Gauteng eight new deaths were reported, in KwaZulu-Natal one, in the Eastern Cape 17 new deaths were confirmed and in the Western Cape, another 27 deaths were reported.
This brings the number of deaths to 1 930.
Mkhize said the death rate was 1.98% at this stage and so far 51,608 (53%) of those who have contracted the virus have recovered from it.
More than 34,000 new tests have been done in the last 24 hours.
