The minister of health, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, provided more information on the COVID-19 pandemic in the country during a press conference this evening (28th April 2020).
He said 4,996 cases had already been confirmed in South Africa with 2,073 people already recovering. A total of 185,497 tests were done.
Three more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 93. Mkhize emphasized that most Covid-19 related deaths were people who had underlying problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.
The minister said 135 health workers in South Africa have so far contracted Covid-19 and one retired doctor has died.
