South Africa has surpassed the 300,000 mark in confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Dr. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in his usual statement on Wednesday evening that 311 049 people in South Africa had already tested positive for Covid-19. This is an increase of 12,757 new cases in the last 24-hour cycle.

According to Mkhize, another 107 Covid-19-related deaths were reported during that time. The deaths were reported in KwaZulu-Natal (4), North West (12), the Eastern Cape (12), the Western Cape (38) and Gauteng (41) respectively.

That brings the country’s death toll to 4,453.

However, a total of 160 693 patients have already recovered, with a recovery rate of 51.7%.

According to Mkhize, 45,389 new tests were performed in the last cycle. A total of 2 278 127 tests have already been carried out, of which more than half (56%) have been done in the private sector.
