A 69-year-old man who died at the National Hospital in Bloemfontein is the Free State’s fifth Covid 19 victim.
This man was from the suburb of Uitsig in the city. The other four deaths in the Free State were also Bloemfonteiners.
Free State Health Department spokesman Mondli Mvambi says the Free State now has 102 Covid 19 cases and five deaths.
Mvambi said the man was tested after his death. All dead in the Free State are now being tested for Covid-19 so that the Free State Department of Health can get a clearer picture of who all died of Covid-19. It is also so that everyone who has been in contact with people with this disease can be detected and tested.
“This is an additional effort to flatten the curve and stop further spread of the disease.”
Mvambi said the department welcomed the number of patients recovering from Covid-19.
“So far, no medication or vaccine is available against Covid-19, but 74 patients have recovered and have been discharged from health facilities in the Free State so they can be with their families. We also monitor patients to make sure they are not infected. ”
Mvambi says the department also monitors the well-being of the 28 positive cases daily. “We remain optimistic that they will fully recover.”
