Another 1 218 people tested positive for the new coronavirus.
Dr. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said on Saturday night that the death rate had risen by 10 and stood at 407 on day 58 of the nationwide state of total lockdown.
Four of the deaths were in the Western Cape, the province with the highest COVID-19 rate nationwide. Five deaths were reported in the Eastern Cape and one in KwaZulu-Natal.
So far, 21 343 people in South Africa have tested positive for the new coronavirus. A total of 10 104 people – or about 47% – have already recovered from the disease.
More than half a million tests for Covid-19 have already been done, 21 338 of them over the past 24 hours.
South Africa is still at coronavirus level 4 and pres. Cyril Ramaphosa will make an announcement on Sunday about the possible relaxation of the lockdown regulations – which have been introduced to stop the spread of COVID-19.
