The Police of Eesterust have been working hard to crack down on illegal firework sales. The authorities were notified of a shop in the area selling fireworks to children as young as seven years old.
Fireworks are dangerous if not handled correctly, children as young as seven should not be handling explosives and could have caused fatal injuries to themselves and others.
The SAPs confiscated firecrackers that have an estimated value of R100,000, whilst at the shop the Police Service made it apparent that the firecrackers were not stored correctly and also stored next to flammable items.
It’s important to remember that fireworks should be professionally manufactured to ensure they are as safe as they can be, if owners are selling without a permit you should be vigilant as safety steps during the manufacturing process could have been skipped.
In order to sell fireworks in South Africa, by law its required that you possess a permit/license. The shop owner did not possess a permit therefore the decision was made to confiscate the items alongside a fine.
