Cabinet today has approved the go-ahead for a National Council against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. This is a stepping stone for the nation of South Africa, it allows the councils to educate the perpetrators and further support the victims.
The council will put in interventions that will be used to stop GBVF, The cabinet have said this will be done “nationally, provincially and locally”
The cabinet also directed a team of Ministers that will be led by Maite Nkoana-Mashabane (Minister in Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities).
“Cabinet also approved the setting up of an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) comprising of Police Minister Bheki Cele; Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola; Public Service and Administration Minister Senzo Mchunu; Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu and Minister Nkoana-Mashabane as the convener.”
The Commission for Gender Equality will be watching closely while GBVF-NSP is active and regularly assess and monitor the progress that is being made.
