Senekal police in the Free State are calling on residents there to help identify a young girl who was discovered in a cemetery on Goodwill Day.
The body of an unknown girl was discovered with burn marks on Thursday at 7 am at Thambo Cemetery in Matwabeng, Senekal.
Provincial police spokesman Motantsi Makhele says police were called to the cemetery early this morning.
The girl’s face was covered with burn marks and there was burnt-out paper around her body.
“An unknown fluid was also found.”
Makhele said the body was taken to the state mortuary for further medical examinations to determine the cause of her death.
“The girl was about 16 years old with braids and was wearing a blue-and-red blouse and gray denim pants during her death.”
Earlier this month three people appeared in a court in Kuruman on charges of kidnapping, murder and stock theft after a body was found in a shallow grave in the bushes near the Galotlhare settlement outside the village.
