A 29-year-old “bank teller” has got himself into a spot of bother after allegedly stealing “substantial” amounts of lottery winnings from a client.
It has been reported to the Police that Nonhlanhla Phillona Matinyane was working with a client that had won the National Lottery. The client was 46 years old and employed a financial advisor to manage the winnings, the advisor noticed large amounts of money being transferred out of the account.
The advisor immediately notified the bank and an investigation was put into action. It was during this investigation that they found enough evidence to suspect that it was Matinyane.
Matinyane was later arrested on the 9th March 2020 when it was reported to the Police.
At this stage of the investigation, the name of the bank has not been disclosed.
The accused attended Swartruggens Magistrates’ Court yesterday on charges of theft, he was granted R1500 bail and the case is due to resume on the 8th April 2020.
